Solar Powered Farm & Barrel Brewing in the Headwaters

Tour the beautiful and green GoodLot Farm and GoodLot Farmstead Brewing Company with WiRE. Hear about how Goodlot is the first farm-to-barrel brewery in the Greenbelt featuring fresh, hyper-local, estate-quality ales & lagers.

Farm & brewery operations manager Gail Winters is a founding member and former director of the Ontario Hop Growers Association.  She is a trained organic farmer and leads all on-farm growing and local ingredient sourcing programs. Prior to operating a hops farm, Gail managed local and international multi-million dollar film productions for 10 years, with teams of over 50 people under her guidance.  

Managing Partner, Director of Sales and Assistant Hop Grower Phil Winters is a passionate environmental and community activist, who previously directed and grew the renewable energy business in Canada for a Fortune 500 manufacturer, and co-founded Enwise Power where he served as President.

Visit includes a tour of farm operations, history of the Headwaters area, and a tour of the brewhouse with a focus on net-zero energy systems, organic production and low carbon construction. Lunch and beer sample included.

Plug'n Drive is a non-profit organization committed to accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles in order to maximize their environmental and economic benefits. Since 2011, Plug'n Drive has established itself as a leader in the electric vehicle (EV) industry, a trusted and unbiased source of information on electric cars, charging stations and the electricity sector.  Plug'n Drive opened the Electric Vehicle Discovery Centre (EVDC) in May 2017, the world's first experiential learning facility dedicated to Electric Vehicles which welcomes members of the public to learn about and test drive electric vehicles in a centralized, sales-free, no pressure and family-friendly environment.

WiRE Field Trip to Blackspring Ridge 300 MW Wind Project


Tour the 300 MW Blackspring Ridge wind power project with WiRE on October 2nd from noon to 3:00pm. 

The 300 MW Blackspring Ridge project, located in Vulcan County, Alberta, is comprised of 166 Vestas V100-1.8 MW wind turbines. EDF Renewables managed the construction of the project under a fixed price engineering, procurement and construction contract with Mortenson Construction. Construction began in May 2013, and was completed in May 2014. As a result of the partnership agreements concluded in 2013, EDF Renewables and Enbridge became co-owners of Blackspring Ridge.

With an investment of about $600 million, the project represents the largest investment in wind energy in Western Canada. More than 350 jobs were created during the construction phase with 20 permanent operations and maintenance jobs.

'Intro to Innovation' at S&C Electric Canada Ltd.

S&C Electric Canada Ltd. is a company founded on the principle of innovation. At this field trip you will experience S&C's cutting-edge technology first hand in it's state-of-the-art Solution Centre. Following a factor tour, participants will hear from S&C experts on the changing grid and the evolving energy ecosystem that is driving the need for increased innovation. The session will end with a look at one of S&C's most recent projects, the North Bay Community Energy Park.

Field trip includes 'Intro to Innovation' presentations by S&C's Avis Petersen and Isobel Parsonage, a tour of S&C Electric Canada Ltd.'s facilities and networking lunch. Closed toed shoes are a requirement for the facility tour.
