New Awards celebrate growing female leadership in renewable energy sector
Nominations open until September 20 2014 for inaugural award that highlights and celebrates the influence and impact of extraordinary women in Canadian wind power industry
August 19, 2014 (Toronto, ON/ Montreal, QC): Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE) is pleased to announce the launch of a new designation for professional women working in the renewable energy sector in Canada: the Woman of Distinction Awards. The awards will launch this October with an inaugural "Wind Power Woman of Distinction Award", in partnership with Women of Wind Energy (WoWE) Quebec.
The Wind Power Woman of Distinction Award will be awarded annually to a professional woman working in the wind energy sector who has consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership and contributed significantly to the expansion and improvement of the wind energy field and/or emerging wind power technology sector. In 2014, the award will be presented during the CanWEA Windpower Conference on October 28th at The Palais des Congrès de Montréal in Montréal, Québec, at a hospitality event co-hosted by WiRE and the newly formed Quebec chapter of WoWE.
· The nominee must stand out as a leader who has contributed significantly to the expansion and improvement in the renewable energy and/or emerging technologies fields
· She must be working in Canada
· She must be a respected role model for other women

About Women in Wind Energy (WoWE) Quebec
"Women of Wind Energy Quebec" is dedicated to promoting women working in the Quebec wind industry as well as students and young professionals in the field. The organization’s goal is to educate and to increase the involvement of women in the industry through networking events, luncheons and a mentoring program. Women of Wind Quebec has been created in late 2013, its leadership committee consists of nine women from Senvion, EDF EN, Boralex, sdv logistics, AQPER, TechnoCentre Éolien and the Canadian-German Chamber of Commerce.
