Alectra’s Vaughan Transformer Station & Control Room Virtual Tour

The Alectra System Controllers in Vaughan Control Room monitor, authorize and direct the safe and reliable operation of the distribution system in the Simcoe County and York Region areas. Normal and emergency service is provided to 373,000 customers from this centre on a 24/7 basis.  Alectra’s Vaughan Transformer Station No. 4 was energized and placed into service in December 2017. 

Experience the construction and operation of Alectra Utilities' Vaughan Transformer Station No. 4 virtually through video footage and expert presentations and commentary by Gerry Reesor (PEng.), Stations Engineer at Alectra. Gerry is responsible for the design and construction of Alectra’s transformer station projects. He’ll share a summary of the major components of the transformer station and some of the challenges that arose during construction.  

Cost: $25 + taxes
Programming includes virtual video tour, expert presentation and Q&A, networking coffee break

Solar Powered Farm & Barrel Brewing in the Headwaters

Tour the beautiful and green GoodLot Farm and GoodLot Farmstead Brewing Company with WiRE. Hear about how Goodlot is the first farm-to-barrel brewery in the Greenbelt featuring fresh, hyper-local, estate-quality ales & lagers.

Farm & brewery operations manager Gail Winters is a founding member and former director of the Ontario Hop Growers Association.  She is a trained organic farmer and leads all on-farm growing and local ingredient sourcing programs. Prior to operating a hops farm, Gail managed local and international multi-million dollar film productions for 10 years, with teams of over 50 people under her guidance.  

Managing Partner, Director of Sales and Assistant Hop Grower Phil Winters is a passionate environmental and community activist, who previously directed and grew the renewable energy business in Canada for a Fortune 500 manufacturer, and co-founded Enwise Power where he served as President.  

Cost: $25 + taxes
Visit includes a tour of farm operations, history of the Headwaters area, and a tour of the brewhouse with a focus on net-zero energy systems, organic production and low carbon construction. Lunch and beer sample included.
